Introduction:
Rhonda Ran Huo presented her dissertation proposal, “Forging a Multi-ethnic Empire: Knowledge Production and Political Practice of the Northwest Borderland in the Qing China.” This project explores how the Han elites internalized the propaganda in the imperial publications on the history and geography of Mongolia and Xinjiang and realized the Qing was a multi-ethnic empire. She outlined the structure of her dissertation and invited feedback from the audience.
